Vintage fast-moving history!

We have an impressive field of participants and ample variety lined up for the Historic Grand Prix this year thanks to the organisers from Merzenich’s Historischer Motorsport Club. They will be rolling out no fewer than five series with iconic cars to span multiple decades of racing history. The overarching theme is German, which makes sense as Circuit Zolder and German motorsport clubs have written quite a bit of history together. That history will be alive and kicking this weekend at the impressive Youngtimer Trophy. This year, nearly 200 drivers have once again registered for Germany’s biggest historic racing series with a unique range of cars from the 1970s and ’80s. Whether that’s a little NSU TT with its boot lid propped open, or the generally well-populated Opel Kadett GT/E and Ford Escort RS 2000 Treter classes, all will be fighting to achieve victory in their classes.

The Cup and Touring Car Trophy is once more the place to be for touring cars and GTs with an engine size of up to 3.6 litres. The Belcar Historic Cup will also be on the programme. This is currently one of the most popular racing classes in Belgium and the Netherlands, with historic racing cars of a multitude of makes and ages. The Dutch Championship Historic GTs & Touring Cars ’66–’81 will also be taking to the tarmac for three rounds of 30 minutes each.

The ‘Kampf der Zwerge’ races are also great fun to watch, with Simcas, Cinquecentos, NSUs, Mini Coopers and more. And on Sunday, the Concours d’élégance will feature some highly unique, remarkable and exclusive classic cars.

It is now precisely 40 years ago that the Formula 1 circus last came to Circuit Zolder. Just like in 1984, Thierry Boutsen, multiple Grand Prix winner, will attend the Concours d’élégance with ‘his’ Arrows A8. Fans of classic Grand Prix cars will find plenty to appreciate at this Concours d’élegance.

We will also be using the occasion to honour some memorable MG, Ford Mustang and Volkswagen Golf anniversaries. Separate classes will celebrate their 100th, 60th and 50th birthdays respectively. Lancia’s revival will be shown off in a class of its own. Nor have we forgotten modern ‘classic’ sports cars. Circuit Zolder has included an additional class for future classics.
