Driving as far as possible on a 12-volt battery

Around 80 Belgian, 15 Dutch, 8 French and a scattering of English, Spanish and Portuguese teams will be competing in this electric endurance test. The Greenpower Challenge finals signal the end of the school year and of the racing season. All teams drive electric cars fitted with the same 240 W engine and two 12 V batteries. The goal is to use the available energy as efficiently as possible while also driving at speeds close to 70 km/h.

This is the second Belgian edition. Last year, there were only 24 teams in the Benelux, but meanwhile there are more than a hundred. Category F24 is intended for students up to the age of 16. The F24+ category is for young people between the ages of 17 and 25. The team that covers the greatest distance, wins.

The Greenpower Challenge is open to all. Teams consist of a coach – usually a teacher – and a group of students – usually a class. The Greenpower Challenge aims to spark young people’s enthusiasm for a career in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM).
