Heusden-Zolder

Heusden-Zolder is a municipality located in the Belgian province Limburg near Hasselt. We have a population of 30.896 and the total area is 53,23 km². Heusden-Zolder was the result of the merger of the two former municipalities of Heusden and Zolder in 1977. During the 1960’s Belgian coal mines faced an enormous shortage of employees. To address this problem, foreign laborers were encouraged to immigrate and work near the mines. In 1992 the last mine in the BENELUX located at Zolder closed his doors.

Besides the mines Heusden-Zolder has a beautiful nature, forest, lakes and castles. Like the castle Meylandt and the castle Vogelsanck. If you want to discover Heusden-Zolder in springtime the EC BMX is a great opportunity.
